Random Journal Day - November 6, 2015

{Well, the thing about "scheduling" a post is...you gotta check it to make sure it is actually "scheduled"!!  So, here it is Sunday night - I've been gone since Friday morning, which did not include checking my blog before leaving.  So, I just discovered this did not post...

Well, better late than never!!}

One of my favorite bloggers to follow is Dawn, who blogs at enthusiasticallydawn.com.  On the first Friday of each month, Dawn hosts Random Journal Daywhere fellow journalers share an entry from one of their journals...

Whether we share an entry from yesterday, or last month, or even one from several years ago...we just share what's on our hearts or in our journals!

Today I want to share an entry from March 2008, when I was able to "check off an item from my bucket list":

Checking My List - March 9, 2008

"Today I realized one of my long-time dreams: to see Anne Murray in concert!!"

{Anne Murray has been my favorite female singer for many many years!  Her beautiful alto voice captivates my "romantic" side; and pulls out the emotions that may be buried deeply withinl!}

"A few weeks ago, I received an e-mail notification from Ticketmaster with the dates of various artists to be in Jacksonville - one of which was Anne Murray!  I decided this was the time to realize what I have been wanting to do - go see her in concert!

"I work hard and feel I deserve to do a few things I want to do - within reason, of course...and this was within reason!"

{I purchased two tickets and gave first choice to my husband to attend the concert with me; he shocked me by actually wanting to go!}

"And, I was not disappointed (in the concert!) - she gave a wonderful performance; included dialogue with the audience in reading some e-mails she has received; invited the audience to "sing along" with our favorites; and also took requests from the audience.

"After a short break (during which she changed clothes!), she continued singing - and invited her daughter, Dawn, to come on stage to sing a couple of duets with her.  Dawn also sang one of her own originals.

"As Dawn left the stage, her mother "whispered" that Dawn would be signing her CD after the concert; unfortunately, Anne did not.

"Of course, Anne sang my favorite, "You Needed Me" - among many other favorites!!"

From YouTube

Now, I'm really not sure why I love this song so much...listening to the song and following the lyrics, it can be taken a couple of different ways...

Just take a moment to read through the lyrics to this beautiful song; perhaps as you listen to Anne singing on the YouTube video above; and I am sure you'll see what I mean about the lyrics!

You Needed Me

I cried a tear, you wiped it dry
I was confused, you cleared my mind
I sold my soul, you bought it back for me
And held me up and gave me dignity
Somehow you needed me.

You gave me strength to stand alone again
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me.

And I can't believe it's you I can't believe it's true
I needed you and you were there
And I'll never leave, why should I leave, I'd be a fool
'Cause I finally found someone who really cares.

You held my hand when it was cold
When I was lost, you took me home
You gave me hope when I was at the end
And turned my lies back into truth again
You even called me friend.

You gave me strength to stand alone again
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me
You needed me, you needed me.

And now, back to the journal entry:

"...of course I bought two autographed CD's during the break (an oldie and a newbie); and after the concert, also bought Dawn's CD.  I also stood in line to have Dawn's CD autographed; and spoke to her briefly while she signed.  Dawn told me she was 24 years old and that this was the first time for her to be in concert with her mother!  What a way to jump-start her career!

"Speaking of careers, one of the e-mails Anne read (during the concert) asked if she would ever go back to teaching - after 41 years and a wonderful singing career, why would she?!  But, it was interesting to hear she had once been a teacher - especially since I have a daughter that is also musical and a teacher!

"Well, I am so excited to have realized one more of my:

'Thing I want to do' or 'Now that I am 50+, these are some things I want to do - before I can't!

"My 'bucket list' (or things I want to do before I 'kick the bucket')...

"But that is not what I call it!  Mine is more of a 'Now that I am 50+...' list!"

As for those lyrics -  when I wrote today's post, and listened to them again, some of the words touched me in a completely different place...

Not in the "you needed me" or "I needed you";

but, in the "I need HIM"...the One who "...gave me strength to stand alone again, to face the world out on my own again"; and the One who "...even called me friend"...

Yeah!  That One!

And that, my friends, ends this month's Random Journal Day entry!  If you want to read more of my "Bucket List" (or whatever it's called!), click here.

  1. Barbara- Loved this post! How cool that you got to enjoy your favorite musician and that song did make me think of Jesus, too! He often speaks to me through secular songs...like Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" One time I heard it on the radio, and felt like Jesus was reminding me that He loves me just the way I am...

    1. This is so true, Kel! He speaks to us in so many ways...we just need to be aware of that fact, and "listen" for His voice, even if it comes through a song...a secular one!!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  2. I love your re-titling of 'bucket-list' - much more positive :). And your enjoyment and enthusiasm still shines through after all this time.

    1. Yes, I just couldn't see using "before I kick the bucket..."as a list of things I wanted to do!!! It was awesome to WANT to do something; go somewhere; to plan it and implement it and to DO IT!!!

      Thanks for reading and commenting, Alexa!
