So - today's word is "GIVE" - and here goes...
We are told to give thanks in ALL things; no matter if it is something exciting and good that is happening - or if it is something horrible and bad. We should give thanks to God in all things, no matter what.
It's easy to give thanks to God when we are having an awesome life: the money is just right to pay our bills and have some fun; the health is great and allows us to do the things we love to do; the house is just right for our needs; the cars are in good repair and take us where we want to go.
BUT...what if the circumstances were different? What if the money barely paid the bills with nothing extra for the fun? What if the health was so bad you couldn't get out and do what you want? What if the house is falling apart and the cars are needing tune-ups or a brake job...what if...
In ALL things give thanks...yes, even in those "what if" times! Even when we can't hold our head up high because of pride or sickness. Those are the times we should be leaning on God and giving him thanks for His blessings. We should even give thanks for those blessings we don't even know about - those that are "already on their way", as this Native American Saying states.
"Already on their way" - what a beautiful way to look at it!
ReplyDeletevisiting from FMF --- Sarah Jo
Thanks for visiting, Sarah Jo! Haven't had much chance to read others except a few blogs I subscribe to...will catch up slowly as we have a busy weekend! Hope your Thanksgiving was super!
DeleteYou and Kate are on the same page tonight. Loved both of your posts. It is hard to give thanks in ALL circumstances but that is indeed what it says in the Scripture doesnt it.
ReplyDeleteYes, Tara to both questions!! It IS hard but it DOES say to do just that!! And, yes I can write it and it's in my heart but I do find it difficult - but we just keep trying! Thanks for the comment; hope your Thanksgivng was a great one!
DeleteSo needed to read this today, Barbara.....[and, besides that, its a really beautiful, and beautifully written, post]. Thank you. [Happy Thanksgiving too - we don't celebrate but had a GREAT time putting our tree and manger up over the last few days - have a lovely holiday weekend xxxx]
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about Thanksgiving over your way; happy to hear you have started with the holiday decorations. We are in a small 2-bedroom apartment; and I said to my daughter I didn't think I'd put anything up this year - she said, it would make me happy to at least put up my mangers (I have several!!!)...which is what I will do if I can get to them easily!!! Thanks for reading; glad it helped you...I am amazed at what comes out sometimes!!!
DeleteI am in love with this quote. So many thoughts of missed accidents and blessing that will come at the end of the road. Have a fantastic beginning of Advent this weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading; I actually searched for a quote before writing my FMF - there are so many ways of looking at "Give" and I wanted a jump start that would help!! Hope your Advent and Christmas and New Year is great...
DeleteWe're in one of those "what if" times and have been for awhile. While challenging, it definitely has strengthened our faith!
ReplyDeleteYes, LeeAnn, it IS hard in those "what if" times; praying things get better for you with God's help and guidance!
DeleteExactly! Blessings surround us and are continually 'on the way'. It's all about our point of view :). Thank you for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading and commenting! God's blessings do surround us and sometimes it is hard to see that...prayers and blessings for a happy holiday season!
DeleteI really enjoy the Native American saying you shared.

Thanks Amanda! I searched for a quote to use as a jump start to my FMF post! It helped put things into a good perspective for me to write!
DeleteSuch an important reminder. I think this something we all struggle with, but you are right, it's in ALL circumstances. THANKS for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYes, Natalie we do all struggle with this; I may write about giving thanks in all circumstances...but it is hard to always remember that! Thanks for reading and commenting!
DeleteLove how you took the time and went in deeper to describe "all" circumstances. You are right. Too often we just skim right over that. Thank you friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Bethany! Appreciate your comment...I must have had "help" putting the words down this time - I searched for the RIGHT quote and went from there - with a bit of help! I appreciate the "went in deeper" part because - well, the words just flowed (even with my hubby trying to talk to me at the same time!!)
