WORD WEDNESDAY - Am I Joyful?

Created by Karen Courcy

My word for the year is JOY.

Quite honestly, I haven't been very joyful lately.

No reason...

At least, I can't put a finger on why, or even when it started.  Perhaps it's a day to day thing?

So, if God designed us to have joy...

Why is it that I don't have joy every day?

It seems as if one day I am joyful; I see the grandkids laughing and being kooky little ones;

And I laugh with them!  I am full of joy!

Then, the next day I am not very joyful.  I feel tired and sad and just...well...not very joyful!

Yet, again, while relaxing in front of the TV, watching a new show hosted by Steve Harvey, "Little Big Shots" (Sunday nights at 8:00 on NBC)...

I find myself laughing out loud at what these little 5 and 6 and 7 year olds say to Steve!  So cute...and so much talent!

And, once again, I am full of joy!
But what is it that makes one day so full of joy;

while the next day is not?

That is a really hard question!

I don't think that people cause us to have joy, as in the grandkids or those on the TV show.

And, I don't think we necessarily cause ourselves to have joy either.

So, what is it that causes the joy at times, yet not at other times?

"Joy isn't about how much our lives have..."

How true this is!  No matter how much "stuff" we may have, our lives can truly be joyful.

"...how much we enjoy our lives" is what makes the difference.  No matter what we have or how much we do, we can still find joy!

We can run so much that we are totally exhausted!  That doesn't mean we are not enjoying our lives; that doesn't mean we don't have joy.

And, we can actually just sit at home relaxing and not run ourselves into exhaustion and still have joy in our lives.

So, no matter what you have, what you do, how much you do, or who you have with you...

And as for me, I think...

Every day!

Thank you for joining me for another week's post on my Word for the Year - JOY!

I say, "Better late than not at all!!"

  1. We all have days where it's hard to find joy. But I too prefer the days where I can find that joy more easily. That Ann Voskamp quote is so good. May you hard a joy filled day!

    1. Thank you, Tara! It IS hard to find joy; but for the most part, I thinnk my life IS full of joy! There are just some things I need to take another look at; perhaps it's time to let a few of them go?!

  2. I need to be more joyful. It is hard to do when I have one teenager who is negative in everything. I live for the small moments. Those seem to bring me most joy. Like when she genuinely smiles.

    1. Yes, Sandy...it IS hard to be joyful; and I so know what you mean about a negative teenager...a negative person period is hard to deal with! Look for the JOY inside of yourself and continue to live for them!

      Thank you for reading and commenting!
