FMF - TURN

TGIF!  Thank goodness it's Friday!!!  And time to join a great group of bloggers for the Five Minute Fridays challenge...on Thursday evening we receive a word and write for five minutes - without thinking about it or any editing.  Try it sometime, it really is challenging! Five Minute Friday

So - today's word is "TURN" - and here goes my post...

Once you turn the corner, there will be no going back to where you once were.  Once you turn your life around, there is more ahead of you and it would not be to your advantage to go back.  So, the only way to go is ahead and no looking back. If you look back to what used to be, what your are leaving behind, you may change your mind and turn around and go back to where you started.  Or, was it a mid-way point that you left?  Either way, to continue on to what is in front of you is the most reasonable choice for you to make.  Once you are on your way to what is in front of you - the journey will not be as long as it was.  You will be on the straight road for a while; then you may be turned around again by a detour or a u-turn; you may run into more bumps in the road than you ever had back where you came from.  But, you will have traveled this far from where you were; and you may get even further if there are no other bumps in the road.  Once you turn that corner...you just don't know where you will find yourself.  Once you turn that corner...it will be a bright and beautiful day and you will be happy that you traveled as far as you did.  You will be happy you made that turn way back there and kept on the straight road.  You WILL see the light at the end of the tunnel, and the curves will take you where you never thought you would ever be.

  1. Hi Barbara ... yes, the journey is long, complicated, bumpy and sometimes confusing. And all we can hope is that light at the end of the tunnel is His light, leading us through the darkness into a hope-filled vista.

Thanks for leading us there ...

  2. Love the image you chose for this post. And I love the thought of going forward on the journey we started. God will see us thorough! I've always been curious to see what's around the next bend in the road.

    1. Yes, isn't it exciting to find out just what He has for us around that bend?? I used this same image in one of my poems and thought it fit for these words that came out as I was trying to write for five minutes...it isn't easy!! And for the words to at least make a little sense!!! Thanks for reading and commenting!

  3. Beautiful imagery and thought-provoking message. love this line: "Once you turn your life around, there is more ahead of you and it would not be to your advantage to go back". Such an encouraging thought, especially when the turns present difficulties. I loved your words and your creative take on fmf "TURN". Great post!

  7. And the journey is more fun if you look at the scenery instead of looking back at where you were! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi, Bethany! This is only the second FMF post I have done; wasn't sure anything I wrote in that short of time (without really thinking about it!!) would make any sense!! No, I am not on Twitter...I only do Facebook, and sometimes Pinterest. Thanks for inviting me to the chat...if I ever do Twitter...and thanks for reading and commenting!

  9. I love this, Barbara! There is so much truth in the idea that when we move forward instead of turning back that we are farther along the road. Your entry reminds me so much of Lot's wife. I've always thought that her punishment seemed rather harsh, but when I think about it like this, perhaps the point of it was that in turning to look back, she was not only being disobedient but taking her eyes off the One who was calling her forward and out of the darkness of that city and in so doing, embracing the darkness in her heart. Obviously, that's not any kind of official interpretation, but it makes sense to me in a way. Great post, my friend! Happy Friday!

    1. Thank you so much!! I had doubted that anything I wrote in 5 minutes without really thinking about it or going back to change anything would make any sense. I appreciate that you saw this story of Lot's wife - and I see it too now that you have mentioned it!! I hope you have a great weekend...I haven't been doing much reading lately...been getting things together for a women's retreat this weekend!! And Happy Friday to you also!

  10. Bravo on writing another FMF post :). So often, I see people give up in discouragement because they don't understand that what's ahead is better than what's behind. Staying on the road to positive changes always results in, well, positive changes!

    1. Thank you...I am encouraged to continue - and continue I will...I need to go back over my notes and reflections from the retreat and get my Sunday Reflections posted! And probably will have more to write as I do more reflecting!!
