Found Poetry

Thank you to Julie at Happy Strong Home - Wholesome Living for the Whole Family blog for the idea of using the titles of children's books to create a form of poetry!  She calls it a "collage of words" and it is fun to create.  Check out her post from October 20, 2014 at:  http://happystronghome.com/2014/10/found-poetry-in-picture-books/ and see what you can come up with!

After joining my daughter and her children for a trip to the local library, and coming out with a bag full of children's books, I decided to give this poetry method a try!  Thanks to "Little Critter" books by Mercer Mayer and Charles M. Schultz and Peanuts, here is what I came up with:

(I'm) Just Big Enough!
Me, too! (says my little brother);
Just Me and My Brother -
Just a Mess!
A Very Special Critter -
Just Me and My Mom!
Good Grief, It's Mother's Day!

In order for the verse to flow better, I added a few words that were not part of the titles; these are in parentheses).

Now that I have done this one with children's books, I thought it might be fun to see what I could come up with using some of my favorite movies!!  Hmmmm!  Might be interesting what I come up with for that one!!

My Fellow Americans -
The American President
(has traveled to) Australia
(to see) Dr. Zhivago
(and a) Pretty Woman
(named) Sabrina.
Mama Mia!
(What) Dirty Dancing
(and) Footloose
Sound(s) of Music!
(It wasn't quite a) Miracle on 34th Street;
(but more like the) Titanic.
WOW!
Shakespeare (must be) in Love
(with this) West Side Story!

Well, it seems this one sounds more like a bit of a story instead of poetry!  But, it's what I came up with using the movies in my collections.  What would yours look like?  Share if you wish!!

  1. I haven't heard of this challenge, and I am just returning to poetry after years of not writing it... this could be a fun way to stir up creativity! I loved your take (and have read or watched most of your Titles!) Fun post!

    1. Thank you for reading and commenting...I am enjoying posting something more fun and happy than all of the "stuff" of my journey with my hubby and his dementia! It will come - I have more ideas that I need to share; but need to get them written or better developed before I do...check out the other information Julie shared in her blog! I am trying to get my creative juices flowing with more poetry too (some of the ones I have posted are older, that's why I've included dates).

  2. I'm almost afraid to contemplate the result if I took the challenge. My side table is littered with books for homeschool right now. Fun!

    1. I'll bet if you sifted through them you'd find something!! Mine sounded a bit weird until I added the parentheses to clarify it! Thanks for reading and sharing!

    1. It WAS interesting and FUN...the second one did turn out kind of silly; but I worked with the movies I had available. Just wanted to do something different today...I'm not writing EVERY day; but feel the need to write - make any sense??? Thanks for reading and commenting!
