We read so many reports that tell us to "get plenty of rest". What is "plenty of rest" for one person may not be enough for another.
I certainly don't know what "plenty of rest" is for me. I don't sleep well at night {due to breathing issues?} So, when I haven't had what my body feels is adequate rest, I turn over in the early morning hours and {try to} go back to sleep!
Once I do that and wake again, I am usually ready for the day; whatever tasks or challenges the day brings, I am ready to face them. So, yes it is important to get good "rest and self-care".
God beckons us to "Come to me..." in Matthew 11:28:
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." (Matthew 11:28-30)
Oh, yes! To "get away" with God; to walk with Him and learn from Him and...
Yet, we can do this! We can get away with God in prayer and Bible study - not just reading the Bible every day, but studying it; letting the words sink into our hearts. And as we read His Words, we learn of His grace; we learn how He will lead us to learn how "to live freely and lightly"...
And, yes! He will give us the rest we need for the journey!

I am smiling at the synchronicity of this, Barbara - after getting up early this morning to do some catching up with myself, the thing I identified was the need for more self-care :). I am not familiar with the Message Bible version - the phrase 'the unforced rhythms of grace' really speaks to me. Thank-you!
ReplyDeleteI love the way the Message Bible puts some of the scripture; so current and easy-to-read! I think we all need more self-care; especially we women! If we don't have that self-care, and love ourselves, how are we to love others?

Lord,
ReplyDeleteI will come to You, and walk with You.
Don't you just love that, Romi..."walk with me..." God is inviting us to walk with Him! Such wonder, isn't it?!
