Day 9 - 2015 - TRUST {FMF}

It's Thursday night, and time for Five Minute Friday!  I am so happy I decided to follow Kate and the FMF "Free Writes" for the 31 Day challenge; and tonight we have our second of the top 5 Reader's Choice words...

So, today's word is:

Trust

My mind immediately thought of the verse from Proverbs:  "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding..."

Proverbs is my second favorite Book in the Bible, especially the Old Testament; my favorite Book is Psalms.

There are many verses throughout the Bible that speak about trusting God; He has our lives planned out for us...He uses the choices we make to direct our paths.  And we should not even try to live without Him.

Yet, we do!

So often we take matters into our own hands; we feel as if we know what to do for ourselves.  We don't always make the right decisions on our own, though, do we?  This Proverb specifically says, "...and lean not on your own understanding."

That's pretty clear, now, isn't it?

The verse goes on to say, "In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

There's no guessing what He will do for us if we acknowledge Him...

He will direct our paths {note that's plural...He will direct our paths not just one path; not just one time...but He will direct our paths.}

As long as we live, He will show us the way we should go.  Only God knows what is up ahead; the road blocks or detours; the bumps and ruts and even the broken-down roads.

"In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

Just put your trust in God, and He will direct your paths for the rest of your life!

  1. Glad you are doing the word prompts! As you know, I'm head first into the Proverbs and the one you quote is one of my faves.

    1. I am so far behind in readin, Susan! I was able to get my posts scheduled through the 13th before crazy-ness - called a scrapbook weekend retreat! But, just haven't had the energy or time to do much reading. I'm getting to some via e-mail and others picking up with the 5 4 5 and other links I see...but, slow reading!

      Thanks for reading mine and commenting; I love the Proverbs too and will be reading more of yours!

  2. There are so many similarities between the books of Provebs and Psalms. Love the verse you share here.

  3. I love that you pointed out PATHS and not just path. I tend to go to God with the big issues in my life, but have this attitude like, "Ok Lord, you take care of this one, I've got the rest." This was a great reminder for me today!

    1. This is how I am, too, Melissa! It struck me as I was writing this post that it says PATH(S) not just one path!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  4. Sorry I have not been here recently; things have been bad (and I am, for the moment, looking piratical, with an eye patch...injury that takes its time healing...AAARRRR!).

    My initial thought for FMF was a 'trust God' piece, but I didn't know how to approach it. Certainly I can't have an "Abba-daddy trust" while I'm being flogged to death, day by day...there has to be a more seasoned, more mature trust.

    And I think it is this - that I trust God in two ways - first, that a world of free will that allows for bad things to happen is necessary, and second, that He will work with me - if I am willing - to try to bring some good from it.

    Does that make sense, or am I off in left field, playing rugby instead of baseball?

    1. You are spot on, Andrew! Absolutely correct!! He isn't going to string us along like puppets; He does give us free will...and unfortunately, you are suffering - but can I say the visual of you being "flogged to death..." did make me smile just a bit; although I know it isn't something to smile about, it sounds like...well, it sounds just like something that ANDREW would say!!!

      And, Andrew, dare I say you ARE allowing Him to work with you and share your insights of caregiving and death...from your perspective. You are strengthened by Him to give encouragement and inspiring words to all of your readers. You are to be commended for that...

      And, prayers continue, my friend! Thanks for taking the time when - for the moment - you can read and get your words shared!

  5. So important. I used that same verse in my FMF post last Friday, too. :) It's the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word "trust." I'm grateful that it was so deeply ingrained into me when I was a child!

    1. Yes, there are those certain verses that come to mind that have been ingrained into us as children! Sometimes it's hard otherwise!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!
