Simple Woman's Daybook - July 6, 2015

Linking up with

Time for another link-up with The Simple Woman's Daybook!  Be sure to check out Peggy's post and all the others this week...

For Today:
July 6, 2015

Outside My Window
Sunny, slight breeze,
chance of a rain shower -
but...
there is that chance
every day
during the summer months!

I am Hearing

A Hallmark Christmas movie;
you know...
"Christmas in July"!

I am Thinking

I love watching
Christmas
"feel-good"
movies;
even in July!

I am Thankful
For all those who
have served
and are serving
in the military;
and for those who
have lost their lives
for our freedoms!

I am Praying for
A couple of friends
who are ill...
God knows who they are!

I am Wearing
Grey sweat pants;
black and white striped
night shirt -
very comfy!
And,
my crocs
(I think it is time
to buy a new pair!)

I am Creating
Birthday Cards
for a card swap;
making 25 to swap,
and an extra 5
to use for myself!

I am Going
to babysit this afternoon
for my grandchildren!

I am Wondering
When I can plan
a short vacation trip
for us?

I am Reading

"To Kill a Mockingbird"
by Harper Lee
(it has been a long time
since I read it,
and found it on sale;
so...
reading it again!)

I am Hoping
For another relaxing week

I am Excited That

We will be celebrating
two birthdays
this weekend!

I am Learning to

Enjoy myself
with family and friends,
in spite of the mood
my husband is in!

In My Kitchen

The dishes are done;
floor needs to be
swept and mopped...
dinner?
probably leftovers!

Around the House

Bits and pieces
of craft stuff,
not an unusual sight!

I am Pondering

God's peace...
I know it is all around me!

A Favorite Quote for Today

"In the very place where God has put us,
whatever its limitations,
whatever kind of work it may be,
we may indeed serve the Lord."
Elisabeth Elliot

A Favorite Scripture Thought

"Whatever you do,
work at it with all your heart,
as working for the Lord."
Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

This scripture enhances the words
by Elisabeth Elliot
shared above...

One of My Fave Things

Retirement...
and flexibility!

    1. We do card swaps about 3 or 4 times per year! I didn't make cards that much until someone showed us to use up our scraps by making a card with them after making a scrapbook layout...a great way to not waste paper scraps. And, if you do it after you finish the layout, you've completed not only a layout but several cards as well!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

    1. I love Christmas movies and music so much that I always start listening the day after Thanksgiving and keep listening as long as I can get away with it. So - yes, Christmas in July is definitely a must!

      I will take photos of the cards I am working on and post them (hoping to have them done and I can post on next Monday's Simple Woman's Daybook!!)

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  3. I have never heard of a card swap, but it sounds like a great idea! I am loking forward to retirement, but no specific time frame yet, I am so totally on board with Christmas in July! Glad you mentioned it, I am playing carols while I knit . . . well, soft jazz carols today. If you visit my daybook entry, check the entry from yesterday. It's about Santa!!!!

    1. Yes, I love Christmas in July...and listening to the music! Also watching the Hallmark and Lifetime movies!!

      A card swap is when a group of crafters get together and make cards for however many are participating...if there are 25 (like this swap), each person makes that many cards of the same sentiment (I am doing birthday)...when we swap, we end up with 25 different cards, created by 25 different people. It is FUN and we stock up on cards when we do the swaps!

      Thanks for reading and commenting - I need to go back to your entry and read all about Santa!!!

    1. Paula, a card swap is getting together with other crafters and making cards. We exchange what we have made with the number of people participating; we have 25 in this swap so I am making 25 of the same card. When we swap, we will all have 25 different cards from 25 different people...adds to my stash quickly!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

    3. You are quite welcome, Paula! We have also done these swaps with scrapbook layouts as well...which is a much BIGGER project! I think I prefer the cards...I have a whole Disney album with pages and no photos because - well, I haven't been to Disney World...maybe this fall though!!

  5. I used to never watch Christmas movies until Thanksgiving but later I though, "Why not?" I noticed your reply on Paula's comment about Disney World. I have a whole album I scrapbooked on Disney World. You will love it if you ever decide to visit!

    1. Yes, Melanie...just waiting to see when my daughter and her family decide to go - my grandson will be 7 on July 15th; but it is just too hot (especially for my daughter and me!!!)...we will probably go this fall. My FIRST visit to Disney World was in Nov. 2003 when my oldest grandson turned 4 - a LONG time ago!!
