Simple Woman's Daybook - August 1, 2016

For Today
August 1, 2016

Looking Out My Window
It's almost 3:00 pm; I took a "break" and went out to brunch with my daughter and grandson, and a quick trip to the store.  Now, I am working on writing and reading and laundry!

It's 92 degrees now; high is to be 93...but, it's a little overcast and we will most likely have rain this afternoon.

I am inside now for the rest of the afternoon and all day tomorrow...getting ready for a retreat this weekend!

I Am Thinking
My little world is not without it's own worries; and I need to stop worrying about it unless there's a reason to do so!

I Am Thankful
For my friends, who "take care of me" and love me and help me to see things in a positive way.  I don't like being negative; I don't like being around negative people.  But, when it's your spouse, or other people close to you, it's hard to get away from it!

One of my Favorite Things
I know I've said this before, but I love being retired...I love the spontaneity of just dressing and taking off for brunch - as I did this morning - without any advance plans having been made!

I Am Wearing
Believe it or not, I am back in my pj's!  I dressed to go off with my daughter; but when I came home, I changed so I could get all my things washed for the weekend...

So, I am wearing a pair of gray pajama bottoms; a gray with black polka dots top, with a batman symbol; and...my crocs!!

I Am Creating
I have almost finished a "pocket letter" with nine ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) that I am working on for a first time project; and completed a card and a 2-page layout at our themed crop on Saturday - "Play Ball" was the theme!

I Am Reading
Still reading "Sunrise" by Karen Kingsbury. As I finish one, I'll move on to the next until I have completed the whole "Sunrise" series which continues the "Baxter Family" story.

I Am Hoping
The past two weekends, the Search committee had face-to-face interviews with two candidates for pastor of our church.  I am hoping the committee can come to an agreement to call one of these two...

If not, we will go back to the profiles we have held back and see who else we may want to interview.

I am hoping this will end soon; it has been a long journey!!

I Am Learning
Think before I speak...especially when trying to have a conversation with my husband.  And, to speak loud enough, slow enough, and clear enough, in short and concise statements so he can understand...

I am learning...

Slowly!

In My Kitchen
Dishes in the dishwasher - clean!  Hot dogs for dinner - hubby's favorite; not mine, but fixing extra so he has some for the weekend.

Shared Quote

I felt this was a good quote to share ... in this world we are currently living in, with shootings and senseless deaths; unforeseen crashes of planes and hot air balloons; tornadoes and hurricanes and fires and uncontrollable forces ...

In these and other times, we come together as needed; and it doesn't matter if we are "bent or straight or evergreens or whatever".  It matters that we are humans acting and reacting together.

We do not know when our end will come; we do not know as we look upon a person or a group of people when their last day will be ...

Let us look at each other and appreciate the persons that we are and not criticize or put them down.  Let us live as one ... each and every day of our lives!

A Moment From My Day
Music and dance ... draw out the emotions and tears.  Watching "So You Think You Can Dance - The Next Generation" focuses on kids from 8 years old to early teens.

Last night the music and their dances were very emotional; and yes, had me in tears watching the beauty of the dances and listening to the words of the songs.

It is very touching to see the way a young "child" and an older "all star" blended so well together.

Thank you, God, for beautiful music and dance!

Closing Notes
And, that ends another week of the Simple Woman's Daybook!  My life isn't that exciting; yet, I am living it to the fullest, even on days that I stay home all day...

I do love my life, even if some days become frustrating for me!

Check in again next week for another "episode" of this simple woman's life!

  4. I do like that quote. I am reading a book about how men's minds work, but a lot of it is really about accepting (and even celebrating) the differences!

I have been collecting up Karen Kingsbury books at used book sales, but I haven't started to read them yet. I became interested because I had a calendar filled with quotes from her books.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Yes, I haven't started the second book in the Karen Kingsbury series yet; once I catch up on sleep and writing and reading others' blogs...perhaps I'll start reading #2!

Thanks for reading and commenting, Stacy; it helps to read the comments!

  5. Love the quote on your page. I will try and see some of my friends as trees. Some criticize others and I am not at fault either. I am thinking this quote will help me in living my faithful life each and everyday.

  7. So true about negatives.
I've read a few Kingsbury books, but it's been awhile. Might have to look into her stuff again.
My August SW Daybook post is up - at Practically at Home. Glad to participate this month!
