Quote Challenge - Day Three

Today I am posting the final quote for the Three Day Quote Challenge I received from my friend, Helen.

For my final quote, I share a couple from C. S. Lewis...

C. S. Lewis is not a "new" author; but for me, reading his works is!  He is my youngest daughter's favorite author.  She is the one that introduced me to his books.

The first introduction was through a movie, though!  When the "Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" came out, I was excited to watch it; and immediately bought the video so I could watch it again.

Last year during the "write31days" challenge, I read - with much interest - the blog of Jennifer Neyhart, who blogs here - who wrote about Lewis.  Her blog peaked my interest again...and I began reading "The Chronicles of Narnia".  I have not read any of Lewis' other books; but plan to do so in the future.

So, from November 10, 2014, when I started book #1, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", until January 14, 2015, when I completed book #7, "The Last Battle"...I engrossed myself in the wonders of Narnia!

Then, my daughter told me of the glimpses of Jesus and Christianity that we find in Lewis' books...something that had crossed my mind; but not as clearly as when I discovered some of these quotes while reading!

Yes, that other name!!

And, this one:

Remind you of the creation?  It sure did remind me of that!  What a fun series to read - yet, so much to learn about ourselves and our world and...our God!

While browsing the used book store, I came across a book by Mark Eddy Smith, "Aslan's Call - Finding Our Way to Narnia".  The information on the back cover states:  "C. S. Lewis has created a wonderful place, a place where anything can happen.  Even the stones can talk. In "Aslan's Call" Mark Eddy Smith shows us how - in this fanciful world - we discover the truest reality.  In the children who travel to Narnia we find ourselves.  In Aslan we find Christ.  And in the place of Narnia we find the very adventure for which God made us.

"We begin with the journey, and it is the journey that shapes us."

I had actually forgotten about this book until writing this post; I think this will be the next book I read!  The book shares, book by book, glimpses of Christ; and uses scriptures to highlight different sections of the story.  Yes, I will read this one next!

I have also found a devotion on Amazon that I plan to use beginning in January 2016; it also uses Aslan and takes us on a "devotional journey with Aslan".

So, join me as we journey to Narnia, and let the journey begin!

Thanks for joining me for my Quote Challenge!  Share the quotes that are your favorites...

  1. Oh, how I love Narnia! And all of the quotes are so familiar.

Should be. I've read the series at least ten times; the first time when I was finally young enough, at 24.

    1. Got you beat there, Andrew! I was over 60 before I read the first (time) book of the series and went right through them all!! I borrowed them from my daughter; but saw a volume at the used book store that had ALL of them in one...I plan to save up to buy that so I can read them again, along with the "Aslan Calling" book!

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and comment...praying today is a better day?! Still praying...

  2. Barbara, I love this post! We have all the Narnia books sitting on our bookshelf and we've only read the 'Lion' one; I think I'm join to start reading them myself once I finish the book I'm reading. The book you found sounds just fab: what a great way to get yet more insight in to his works...(and how serendipitous that you should chance across it like that!)....and what a GREAT devotional that must be!
