Five Minute Friday - VISIT

The weekend is here...today is Friday!  I am linking up with Kate for Five Minute Friday at http://katemotaung.com/ to write for only five minutes on a single word prompt!

Tonight's word is:  VISIT

SO, here goes...

Most of the images I found on Pinterest reflected "visit" more as a travel commercial or brochure:

Visit Paris and the Eiffel Tower!

11 Small towns to Visit in Florida!

Make your Visit to the Mountains count...

But my mind didn't go in that direction;

I want to go back to the days when we would have a nice visit with a friend, over a cup of coffee or a glass of tea...sharing our lives with each other; always a good time for everyone involved.

Somebody sat and listened, to YOU; and you, in turn, listened to them.  Whatever was on our mind was an open subject...

The children; our husbands; our deep, dark secrets -

Yes, we all have those!

What I would give for a visit with my mom in the nursing home; actually, a visit with her and my dad at their home would be awesome.  But...those times are gone!

Yet, those are the times I miss...

Dropping by and eating dinner with the family; sharing our lives and the seasons and the holidays...

My visits now are still with family in their homes; and sometimes they visit us and we go to the community pool for a swim (in the summer, of course!)...

Visit...

I'd like to go back to that time again when friends would just drop by unexpectedly...

and I pray anyone who did stop by for a visit -

found themselves blessed!!

  1. Barbara, we were thinking in similar directions today. I love having coffee and simply sitting and visiting with friends or family. Those visits are the best. I need to be better about visiting others.

  2. Lovely... In our over-scheduled, chaotic world, we can forget how vital visits really are!

  3. Oh, I love the poster/quote! I agree~there is something so heart warming about curling up in a chair and having a heart to heart visit with a dear and trusted friend. I actually am expecting a friend to drop by for a visit later this afternoon...if the weather doesn't get to wintry! I haven't had a good visit with her for a while!

I'm glad I was your FMF neighbor and got to come by for a visit!

    1. Oh, I hope your visit with your friend didn't get changed because of the weather! I can just picture you and your friend sipping on a cup of hot tea (or coffee!)...and enjoyed each others' presence!

I have a friend that I used to work with and we get together for visits over dinner; sometimes lunch, but she is still working while I am retired...those are wonderful visits!

Thank you for reading and commenting!

  4. I drop in on my parents occasionally :). They live close by, and it's nice to have someone I can borrow a cup of sugar from!

    1. I miss that with my parents! They were in same town; but dad died in 1990. Mom came to live with us a few years later after my grandfather died. She went to a nursing home in 2006, where I visited with her several days a week until she told me to stop wearing myself out and just come one day - so our day became Sundays after I finished church and lunch; or I'd eat lunch with her.

Now, I enjoy times with my girls!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  5. I love those visits over a cup of coffee or dinner. In fact, my best girlfriend and I routinely meet up at our local Barnes and Noble for what we call "coffee and catchup" and we chat about whatever happens to be on our minds and hearts. Sometimes we make a whole evening of it and do dinner first (and visit with each other) and then follow that with coffee (and more visiting) and window shopping and/or buying necessities or fun stuff (more visiting). Sometimes it's just coffee because time is limited, but that's fine too. It's not the coffee or dinner or window shopping that is important -- it's the visiting. When you mentioned visiting with your mom and dad, it reminded me of how much I miss visiting with my Mema and Pepa. They've been gone 14 and 24 years respectively, but I miss them so much sometimes. I'd love to have the chance to visit with them all over again. So good to read your post, as always, Barbara!

    1. I have a friend like that! Sometimes we need for lunch, or dinner; we've done dinner and a movie; we've done lunch or dinner and shopping in the mall...whatever we do, it's also a "catchup visit"! We are due to have one SOON!!

Yes, I miss visiting with my parents; mom passed in 2012 and now I guess I am the "oldest" in my family (not counting that my husband is older!)

So happy to see your name on the posts again!!! Thanks for reading and commenting!
