Simple Woman's Daybook - February 16, 2015

FOR TODAY
February 16, 2015

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW - temp low 60's for now; high temp for today 72; a light breeze blowing with slightly overcast skies; possibility of rain late tonight.

I AM THANKFUL - my hubby and all he does to make life "easy" for me and his encouraging me to do my crafts.

IN THE KITCHEN - stew meat thawed out; I need to be in the kitchen getting it into the crock pot!

I AM WEARING - jeans, a purple shirt and a pair of crocs, my perfect "stay at home" attire!

I AM CREATING - a space to work on some crafts; actually, the space is there, I just need to clear it off enough to be able to work!

I AM  WAS GOING - to join my daughter and her family and go to St. Augustine, FL this afternoon; but changed my mind...I have been sick, coughing, congestion, sneezing, etc. and have no energy due to lack of sleep.  I think I will be miserable walking around; so I will stay home and get some other things done at my pace.

I AM WONDERING - what the difference is between "wondering" and "pondering"; headed for the dictionary...

wonder(ing) - "to be surprised; to marvel; to want to know, ask yourself" as in "I wonder if you could open the door."

ponder(ing) - "to think deeply" as in I am pondering the scripture I read this morning."

No more wondering!  Now I know - had an idea that was the difference; but had to check it out...

I AM READING - "The Imperfect Caregiver" by Bobbi Carducci.  I connected with Bobbi during the "write31days" challenge through her blog written for The Caregiver Space.

I AM HOPING - the nice spring-type weather stays around; I do not enjoy the cold weather (even if it really isn't that cold compared to the northern states!).

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO - another scrapbooking retreat, this time out of town.  I will be in the small town of Palatka, FL in a hotel along the St. Johns River.  I have been photographing their murals now since 2007; every time I think I've gotten the last of them, they put up another one!  Getting the camera ready for yet another one!  Here is one of the first ones I came across, and it is no longer there:

I have a scrapbook album with all of the pictures I have taken of these murals on the sides of various buildings.  They are amazing!

I AM LEARNING - The book I am reading, "The Imperfect Caregiver", is giving me the assurance that I am not in this alone!  Some of the passages I read in the book, I think "This is so like what I am seeing!" or "Is this something I may have to deal with in the future?"  It is written from the heart and soul of one who has "been there done that" and lived through it!  I will survive as well!

I AM HEARING - The TV; I keep meaning to get up and turn it off!

AROUND THE HOUSE - Still in a mess with all of my stuff...there is something about coming home from a retreat with more stuff and needing to go through it all and get it organized - for the next retreat or class!  And, being sick...it has not been a priority!

I AM PONDERING - How God is working in my heart and my life.  If you asked me even 6 months ago about love or romance or how I felt about my hubby - my answer would have been "What is love?" or "I don't know how I feel about him!"  But now...well, God is working!

A FAVE QUOTE FOR TODAY - From I Corinthians 13:7: "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."

And, the way a friend put it when I posted my take on Valentine's Day: "Love is in the little things."

So, I guess you want to know what I wrote??  Here it is, my "fave thing from the week":

ONE OF MY FAVE THINGS FROM THE WEEK - "So, everyone is posting their Valentine's Day pictures; no pictures here...but let me tell you about mine: My hubby of almost 32 years did not shower me with gifts; typical! But, what he did do...he showered me with LOVE! A peck on the forhead, no reason; a small box of chocolates (days BEFORE V-Day); a bottle of RED gatorade (because I was sick); helping me to take down and wash the shower curtain; and loading my car so I could go scrapbooking...these are the things of LOVE that I am beginning to see more as love, and cherish! (Not to say the gifts aren't a good thing!!!"

A FEW THINGS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK -
  • It is payday week, so the shopping and bill paying and organizing for the month!
  • Doctor appointment for hubby; I may "piggy-back" on his appointment if not feeling better.
  • Help younger daughter with the three kiddos at a "Jump zone" where they can get their exercise and energy out!
  • A "Mardi Gras" themed scrapbooking day!
  • Card-making on Sunday afternoon.

A PEEK INTO MY DAY -
  • making beef stew for dinner;
  • organizing cards for craft shows;
  • listing fund-raising ideas for the Patriot Service Dogs retreat in May.
  • writing letters to my FMF Snail Mail friends; the one for this week and one from the last round that has sent me an unexpected letter!
  • catch up my posts for Fab-ruary...I keep getting off-track by trying to be too particular on what I write and the photos and things I use on them!
  • and, reading, crafting, watching TV; whatever my energy level allows me to do (I doubt all of the above will get done!).

This is what I would like to be doing, cuddled up with the cat, wearing my "pink snuggy", relaxing with my books and other things right at my finger tips...

Well, what's wrong with this picture??  First, my poor Honey is no longer with us; and I gave the snuggy to my daughter.  Also, I don't have that chair any longer, and we are no longer in that house.

But, the point is that I would love to be just relaxing and letting the cat (the one I have now!) lie on my lap.

    1. Thank you Jodi! It's sinusitis, and I feel so "out of it" and this coughing can just GO AWAY!!!

That pink snuggie made it's rounds! It was given to my mother, first, I think; then to me and then my daughter. The cat made her bed there, too.

  2. Hi Barbara! Oh 72 degrees, you lucky girl! That would be amazing! Sorry you aren't feeling well, and hope you are on the mend really soon. Just a few weeks ago, I pondered the terms "Wonder" and "Ponder" on my blog, lol! Before that I was confused! My hubby gave me flowers and a rear windshield wiper blade for my car for Valentines Day, and it was perfect! Something I needed, and it helps me to be safe, and I really appreciated it, it truly is the little things. Have a blessed week.

    1. Yes, Ellie! I hate to brag, but...72 degrees. But inside, beneath the ceiling fan (which I need to have on so I don't get over-heated and start coughing - again!), I feel chilly. I'll be glad to feel better!!

Sounds like you had the same thing on your mind to the words "wonder" and "ponder"!!

And, yes, what will help you be safe is an awesome V-day gift! It really IS the little things...

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

    1. Glad I could clear up the "wonder" and "ponder" issue!! Seems there are others out there that have "wondered" the same thing and been "pondering" it!!

Hope I am on the mend, too; at least it's just the sinusitis! Last week it included a stomach virus!

    1. Oh, yes...with dementia and the personality issues we've had over the years, I'll take every little bit of it I can get!

  5. I do hope you get to feeling better soon, Barbara. It's hard to look up when we're feeling down. Glad to hear you're seeing more of the love in the little things from your hubby. Remember, it's not about either one of you. It's about your marriage displaying the gospel of Christ, His love in the difficulties. Will be praying that God's grace enables you to continue to think on the good things (Philippians 4:8). Blessings to you, dear one, for turning your eyes upward.

    1. Thanks, Amy! Sorry for bragging so much about our "beautiful" weather - but today...RAINING!! I have felt better; but I have also felt worse!! I will see dr. in the morning and hope to get some meds to help! I am sure it's a sinus infection; I've had enough of them!!

  7. Lap kitties are the best...I am sure you miss Honey. We have a Maggie, but she is not keen on laying on laps.

    1. Yes, I do miss Honey! First, when we left our house for an apartment, my son and his family took her with them to Louisiana -- 12 hours from us! But, she disappeared from there about a year ago. She was an older cat and may have just went off to die...

Eventually, I had to have a new lap kitty!! And, Midnight, our tuxedo cat, sure does love to lie near me - no matter where I am!!
